The planning application, which will be submitted in the first part of next year, will be seeking permission for an Overland Conveyor from the Materials Handling Facility and a new Port Handling Facility at Redcar Bulk Terminal, as illustrated above. This follows outline permission being grated in 2018 for a similar development.

By clicking the view points on the plan below, you will be able to see indicative images of the proposed conveyor from key views along its route including a proposed crossing over the A1085. A further description is provided at the bottom of the page.

Overland Conveyor

The Overland Conveyor, which will comprise two fully enclosed parallel pipe conveyors, will transport polyhalite products from the Materials Handling Facility, following the route that was previously granted under outline planning permission.

Whilst the height of the conveyor will vary along its route, it will  be at an approximate height of 10 metres as it runs adjacent to Dormanstown and over the existing trunk road (A1085). As illustrated in the imagery above, there will only be limited views of the conveyor from Dormanstown.

Port Handling Facility

The Port Handling Facility will largely comprise of two large, rectangular storage sheds adjacent to the Bran Sands Lagoon which will accommodate stockpiles of the polyhalite product. These sheds will each be approximately 545 metres long, 73 metres wide and up to 50 metres high. Various transfer stations, screening and packaging facilities and ancillary buildings are also proposed as part of the overall facility.

For export, the product will be transferred from the storage sheds via an enclosed conveyor system before loading onto moored vessels via a ship loader; initially at the Redcar Bulk Terminal quay and subsequently from the consented Harbour Facility as the Woodsmith Project moves towards full production.
