Our Track Record

The proposed development is anchored by a BP and Marks & Spencer franchise store. The two organisations have a track record of working together successfully, having delivered 278 sites over an 11 year period via a franchise model.

In part, the approach is intended to provide Marks & Spencer with an opportunity to establish a presence in strong market locations where the population is too small to support a larger, M&S Foodhall store.

Enhanced Choice

Thirsk is currently served by a range of shops and facilities, including within the Town Centre and at the Tesco store on Station Road. The chosen site represents an attractive location to all of the prospective operators.

It benefits from strong traffic flows along the A19 and York Road (A170), and offers an opportunity to capitalise upon both passing trade and also from residents in Thirsk. This underpins the viability of BP’s proposal.

In addition, the proposed M&S Simply Food store will provide residents with access to a range of M&S branded goods and products, within convenient distance from the main residential areas of Thirsk.
